Qatar Christmas balikbayan box cut-off 2026: Doha sea, air and Qatar Post
No Doha balikbayan courier and no Qatar Post page showed a Christmas 2026 cut-off date on 2026-10-18. The providers post transit times instead. Qatar Post lists Global Express at 7-10 days on its service page and 3-5 days in its rate calculator, which prices a 0.5 kg parcel to the Philippines at QAR 110. LBC Express Qatar posts air “as fast as 7-15 days”. Taken back from Dec 24, Noche Buena, those three windows point to hand-over days between Dec 9 and Dec 21.
Qatar National Day, Friday Dec 18, falls inside that stretch, and its 2026 days off were still unannounced in mid-October. Sea freight is harder to place. Gulf container traffic still works around the Strait of Hormuz, and Lloyd’s List Intelligence wrote on Oct 8 that while crude exports had recovered, “other major markets, like bulk and containerships, have made little improvement”.

Is there a Qatar Post Christmas deadline for the Philippines in 2026?
Qatar Post’s Overseas, Cargo Service, Global Express, Global Standard and News pages carried no holiday or year-end posting date on 2026-10-18.
Its transit figures come from three places, and they disagree. Each service page gives one window. The Overseas overview gives the Cargo Service a second, 20-25 days. A third set appears as service text in the Explore Rates calculator on the Global Express page, worded the same for the Philippines, India and Saudi Arabia, which makes it each service’s general window. Qatar Post does not say which figure governs a parcel to Manila or Davao.
QAR 12 per kg to Manila and Luzon, QAR 14 per kg to Mindanao and the Visayas, a 20 kg minimum chargeable weight, no effective date: that is the Philippines rate on the Cargo Service page. Asked for the Philippines on the same day, the calculator answered “No Cargo Service for the Provided Country”. India, also on the page’s rate table, drew the same answer, while a 30 kg parcel to Saudi Arabia priced at QAR 300. Qatar Post has not posted which of the two is current. Its hotline is 104.
Both parcel services are priced to the Philippines by weight in the calculator, up to the 30 kg maximum that each service page also states.
| Parcel weight | Global Express (QAR) | Global Standard parcel (QAR) |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 kg | 110 | 90 |
| 1 kg | 130 | 90 |
| 2 kg | 170 | 120 |
| 5 kg | 290 | 210 |
| 10 kg | 490 | 360 |
| 20 kg | 890 | 660 |
| 30 kg (service maximum) | 1,290 | 960 |
Twenty kilograms by Global Express comes to QAR 890. By Global Standard it is QAR 660. At the Cargo Service’s posted per-kg rates the same weight would be QAR 240 to Luzon or QAR 280 to Mindanao (rate times 20 kg), if that service is running for the Philippines. For a box over 30 kg, no Qatar Post option to the Philippines is confirmed: both parcel services stop at 30 kg, and the Cargo Service is the one in question.
Parcels are handed in at a Qatar Post branch, among them the General Post Office in Al Dafna, Industrial Area, Al Khor, Al Wakra and Al Mansoura. Branches “have different opening hours depending on the branch”, and no December holiday hours are posted. Qatar Post’s dangerous goods page counts “aerosols, nail varnish and perfumes” as dangerous goods under transport legislation and links its list of prohibited items, which it says applies to all its services.
DHL Express, FedEx, UPS and Aramex had no 2026 holiday date to the Philippines on a Qatar page readable on 2026-10-18, so each is a confirm-with-the-carrier question.
Which Doha couriers ship balikbayan boxes, and are they accredited?
Six Qatar couriers with websites of their own turned up, plus Manila Express Cargo and United Express Cargo, which appear on DTI’s Qatar file but have no website. They are listed alphabetically. The two right-hand columns check each name against Philippine government lists, with names printed as those lists print them.

DTI’s Qatar file is dated 31 August 2026. Three of its 28 rows carry expiry dates that fall after that day: RDM Logistic Express, CargoNet’s partner, on 07-Sep-26, Soonest Global Express on 16-Sep-26 and Globelink NVOCC on 22-Sep-26. The next expiry printed on the file is Tañon Gulf Logistics, 20-Oct-26. On 2026-10-18 DTI’s file store held monthly Qatar files up to August; the September file was not there yet.
Several Doha names pair with more than one Philippine company. Sky Freight Group has three partners and Manila Express Cargo two, and Speedstream Transport, Eship Door2Door and Trico International each serve three Doha agents. The Bureau of Customs lists are older. Each is a 2022 port memorandum; the one for NAIA, dated 15 August 2022, names the accredited forwarders whose consolidated boxes were processed and released there.
On LBC’s Qatar pages, sea shipping is “done always on schedule” (shipping services) and the sea-freight page states “we guarantee door-to-door delivery”. Neither gives a day count, and the air line, “as fast as 7-15 days”, gives only the quick end. LBC’s QAR starting prices, and how Doha forwarders quote by box size, are on Qatar-to-Philippines courier rates.

Counting back from Dec 24 with the posted transit windows
Each count-back is Dec 24 minus a posted window, in calendar days.
| Service | Posted window | Counted back from Dec 24 | What it leaves out |
|---|---|---|---|
| Qatar Post Cargo Service (Overseas overview) | 20-25 days | Nov 29 - Dec 4 | The calculator returned no Philippines Cargo Service; the Cargo Service page's 10-15 working days |
| Qatar Post Cargo Service (calculator service text) | 12-15 days | Dec 9 - Dec 12 | The calculator returned no Philippines Cargo Service |

From Manila, a box for Davao or Cagayan de Oro still has LBC’s domestic leg ahead of it. LBC’s Qatar pages give that leg in days from the National Capital Region, and the count excludes Sundays and holidays.
Whether “as fast as 7-15 days” already includes that leg, LBC does not say. Counted separately, at 15 days by air plus 6 to Mindanao, the count reaches back to Thursday, Dec 3. A slower flight moves it earlier.

Is the Strait of Hormuz affecting sea cargo from Qatar in 2026?
When are banks and offices closed in Qatar in December 2026?
Qatar’s December closures were only partly announced by mid-October.
| Date | Day | Status in Qatar |
|---|---|---|
| Dec 18, 2026 | Friday | Qatar National Day, "observed annually on December 18" (QNA). The days declared off for 2026 had not been announced by Oct 18: confirm with the Amiri Diwan notice |
| Dec 24, 2026 | Thursday | Not an official holiday |
| Dec 25, 2026 | Friday | Not an official holiday; Christmas is not on Qatar's official-holiday list as reported (May 2025) |
| Dec 31, 2026 | Thursday | Not an official holiday |
| Jan 1, 2027 | Friday | No financial-institution holiday announced for 2027: confirm with Qatar Central Bank. For Jan 1, 2026, QCB declared a holiday, and banks resumed on Sunday, Jan 4 |
In 2025 the Amiri Diwan gave two days’ notice. Its announcement on Tuesday, Dec 16 made Thursday, Dec 18 an official holiday and said “Employees will resume work on Sunday, December 21, 2025” (QNA). Under the Cabinet framework The Peninsula reported in May 2025, a weekend falling between holidays joins the holiday. This year Dec 18 is a Friday. One year of precedent does not show whether a weekday will be added.
Philippine bank closures over Christmas and New Year are on December remittance timing and Philippine holidays.
How much does it cost to send money from Qatar to the Philippines?
The World Bank surveys Qatar to Philippines transfers at QAR 730 and QAR 1,820, and Q1 2025 was the newest quarter readable in mid-October 2026.
| Amount sent | Average total cost (%) | Average total cost (QAR) | Range across products | Previous quarter (Q4 2024) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| QAR 730 (USD 200) | 3.21% | QAR 23.40 | 1.98% - 3.90% | 3.65% |
| QAR 1,820 (USD 500) | 1.69% | QAR 30.70 | 1.09% - 2.26% | 2.17% |
average total cost per transfer, in QAR
The average fee was QAR 18.50 at both amounts, which comes to about 2.5% of a QAR 730 transfer and about 1.0% of QAR 1,820. The margin runs the other way.
What changes once the box lands
A box from Doha clears customs under the same rules as one from anywhere. The ₱150,000 in CAO 01-2018 §4.2 is a yearly figure per sender, totalled at FCA value across all of that sender’s balikbayan boxes. Three shipments a year can use the privilege (§4.1), and one valued above the ₱10,000 de minimis uses one of the three (CAO master copy on customs.gov.ph). Neither section says which year a box in transit over New Year counts in. The balikbayan box tax-free limit page sets out the rest.
How to read this
For a sender in Qatar in late October, the posted figures support three statements. Qatar Post’s parcel windows and LBC’s air window all land in December, Dec 9 to Dec 21 by the count-back. Qatar Post’s cheaper Cargo Service has a posted Philippines rate and no confirmed service, and nothing over 30 kg is priced. Sea boxes have no day count from any Doha courier. Those count-backs follow the arithmetic the Christmas box cut-off checker runs for each route and region.
Missed the Christmas box cut-off: what still arrives covers the options after a box misses Christmas, and Christmas gifts delivered in the Philippines from abroad covers gifts bought inside the country. The Christmas box cut-off tracker keeps a courier list for every corridor, and the Christmas shipping timeline lays out the stages by date.

Questions, answered
- What is the Christmas 2026 cut-off for a balikbayan box from Qatar?
- As of 2026-10-18, no Doha balikbayan courier posts a 2026 Christmas cut-off on its own website. LBC Express Qatar, AIWA Express Cargo, CargoNet, Sky Freight Group and ZedEx Cargo show none, and the website of Coriner, Conor International's Philippine partner, showed only its title. Qatar Post posts no year-end date either. Dec 24 minus each posted window gives Dec 9 for LBC air, whose 'as fast as 7-15 days' states no maximum, and Nov 29 for Qatar Post's 20-25-day Cargo Service, although its calculator returned 'No Cargo Service' for the Philippines that day.
- How long does Qatar Post take to the Philippines, and how much does it cost?
- Qatar Post states different windows for the same services. On 2026-10-18 its Global Express page said 7-10 days and its rate calculator's service text said 3-5 days; the calculator priced the Philippines at QAR 110 for 0.5 kg and QAR 290 for 5 kg. Global Standard parcels: about 15 days on the service page, 7-10 days in the calculator, QAR 210 for 5 kg. Both stop at 30 kg. The Cargo Service page lists the Philippines at QAR 12 or 14 per kg, 20 kg minimum, but the calculator returned 'No Cargo Service' for the Philippines.
- How can a balikbayan box forwarder in Qatar be checked?
- Two Philippine lists carry them. The DTI Fair Trade Enforcement Bureau publishes a monthly file per country; the Qatar file as of 31 August 2026 has 28 Doha foreign-agent rows, each with its Philippine forwarding company and an accreditation expiry date, and the September file was not yet posted on 2026-10-18. The Bureau of Customs posts 2022 port memoranda naming the accredited forwarders whose boxes were processed and released at each port. The Commission on Filipinos Overseas urged senders to check the BOC list before sending (Gulf News, 2026-10-06).
- Is December 18 a holiday in Qatar in 2026, and are banks closed on Christmas Day?
- Qatar National Day is observed annually on December 18 (Qatar News Agency, 2025-12-16), and in 2026 it falls on a Friday. The Amiri Diwan announces the days off each year; the 2026 notice had not been issued by 2026-10-18, and in 2025 it came on Dec 16. Christmas Day is not on Qatar's official-holiday list as reported in May 2025. Qatar Central Bank declared Thursday, Jan 1, 2026 a holiday for financial institutions; no Jan 1, 2027 notice had appeared by 2026-10-18.
- Is the Strait of Hormuz disruption affecting sea cargo from Qatar in 2026?
- No Qatar balikbayan courier checked on 2026-10-18 posts how its boxes are routed. Maersk's Middle East Operational Update 51 (updated 08 Oct 2026, still its newest on Oct 18) accepts dry cargo bookings to and from Qatar, lists a land-bridge export option from Qatar via Salalah and Khor Fakkan, has paused landside bookings from Qatar via Jeddah and Oman ports, and charges USD 1,000 per container on vessels transiting the strait. Lloyd's List Intelligence wrote on 8 October 2026 that bulk and container shipping 'have made little improvement'. These describe container networks; a box's transit time comes from its courier.
