Hong Kong Christmas 2026 cut-offs to the Philippines: Hongkong Post and balikbayan box dates

Checked Seasonal — refreshed yearly

Hongkong Post’s 2026 Christmas air mail list gives The Philippines Thursday, December 3 for air parcels and Friday, December 4 for air letters and packets (release of 13 October 2026, re-read 2026-10-19). Its surface list, released 10 September, set Monday, November 2, 2026 as the surface-mail date for the same destination. For a balikbayan box, AFreight’s posted sea times count back to a latest sailing between November 24 (Mindanao) and December 10 (Metro Manila); those two are derived, not posted dates. None of the four Hong Kong box couriers with websites of their own had a 2026 Christmas cut-off there on October 19.

  • Hongkong Post — Speedpost and e-Express+: no Christmas date in either 2026 list
  • AFreight — sea: no 2026 Christmas cut-off on its own site
  • Gen-Ex Cargo — sea: FAQ: Christmas cut-off 'announced one month before'
  • LBC Express Hong Kong — sea/air: no 2026 Christmas cut-off on its own HK pages or in LBC's cut-off lookup
  • Usend Hong Kong — sea: no 2026 Christmas cut-off on its own site
  • DHL Express / FedEx / UPS — express: no 2026 Philippines date; UPS Hong Kong lists Dec 25 and Dec 26 as holidays with service adjustments (2026-10-19); confirm with carrier
Hongkong Post markers are its own 2026 dates. The two AFreight markers are derived, not posted: December 24 minus AFreight's posted transit, which counts from the ship's departure rather than the day a box is handed over. Undated rows had no 2026 date on the provider's own pages on 2026-10-19 (DHL and FedEx: 2026-10-18) and move to a dated marker once one is posted.

From Friday, October 30, Hongkong Post charges new postage for Speedpost, surface parcel and e-Express+ (notice of 15 October 2026). The Philippines air parcel rate stays as it is. A surface parcel posted between October 30 and November 2 pays the new rate.

When is the 2026 Christmas posting deadline from Hong Kong to the Philippines?

Hongkong Post publishes its surface dates in September and its air dates in October, and both 2026 releases carry a row for The Philippines. It calls every date “provisional” and “for reference only”, and adds a line of its own: “The public are advised to post earlier than the dates shown.” Its despatch list of 14 October 2026 gives the same November 2 for surface letters and surface parcels.

Dates: Hongkong Post Christmas air mail list (13 Oct 2026) and surface mail list (10 Sep 2026). Weight: the heaviest item for which the Hongkong Post postage calculator returns a quote to the Philippines on 2026-10-18; Hongkong Post's parcel pages give a general 10–30 kg range that varies by destination. For air and surface parcels the calculator also returns a size limit of 150 cm and 300 cm in total, matching the larger ('XP') limit of 1.5 m length and 3 m length plus girth on the parcel pages. Postage: rate tables attached to the notice of 15 Oct 2026, and the calculator on 2026-10-18. All Philippines services were listed as available in Hongkong Post's notice of 3 Sep 2026. Enquiry hotline: 2921 2222.

Air parcels close a day before air letters. A parcel going by air has December 3; a packet of up to 2 kg still has December 4. Surface mail travels by sea and closes a month earlier.

Hongkong Post's posted delivery time to the Philippines, by service (working days) Posted terms — see sources
Source: Hongkong Post postage calculator, destination Philippines, read 2026-10-18; the calculator labels the figures 'Working Day(s)'. Air mail counts from the day of posting, surface mail from the latest date of posting. Customs clearance is outside every figure. Hongkong Post's June 2026 delivery table (Pos15 Supplement, Section 8) gives surface mail to the Philippines as 5 to 10 weeks.

For Speedpost, that delivery standard is the only timing figure there is. It runs 1 to 6 working days to listed postcodes in Kalookan, Makati, Manila, Quezon City, Taguig and eight other Metro Manila cities, and 1 to 9 working days elsewhere. Day 0 is the day of posting. The count uses the destination’s working days (Hongkong Post calculator, 2026-10-18).

Of the 119 offices in Hongkong Post’s post-office locator data, one lists Sunday hours: the General Post Office at 2 Connaught Place, Central, open 12:00 to 17:00 on Sundays and 08:00 to 18:00 Monday to Saturday. It lists no public-holiday hours. The last Sundays before the posting dates are November 1 for surface mail and November 29 for air (both read off the calendar).

Hongkong Post postage for one 5 kg item to the Philippines, rates in force from 30 October 2026 Posted terms — see sources

HK$ per 5 kg item

Sources: Speedpost Service Rateplan (effective 2026.10.30), Air Parcel and Surface Parcel Postage Rates (updated 30 October 2026), attached to Hongkong Post's notice of 15 October 2026. Air and surface totals are added up from the per-step rates; the air total equals the calculator's 5 kg quote on 2026-10-18. Before the change, on 2026-10-18, the calculator quoted HK$392 by Speedpost and HK$332 by surface parcel.

On the October 30 tables, Speedpost undercuts air parcel at 5 kg (HK$412 against HK$440) and at 10 kg (HK$641 against HK$670). By 20 kg the order reverses: HK$1,137 by Speedpost, HK$1,130 by air parcel. Small items behave differently again. From October 30 a 1 kg item costs HK$230 by Speedpost, HK$248 by surface parcel and HK$256 by air parcel, and surface parcel is the cheapest of the three for anything over 2 kg.

What Hongkong Post’s guide lists for the Philippine end

Hongkong Post’s Post Office Guide has two Philippines pages, one for letter post (dated January 2026) and one for parcel post (dated December 2020). Between them they set out what happens to a posted item once it reaches the Philippines.

Items posted to the Philippines, per Hongkong Post's Post Office Guide (read 2026-10-18)

  • One parcel a week: the number of parcels one sender may send to the same addressee is 'restricted to one parcel per week' (parcel-post page).
  • Two copies of a commercial invoice for each parcel, whatever the value of the contents: one attached to the outside, one inside.
  • Collection: 'Addressees are required to arrange for collection of their parcels.'
  • A processing or handling fee of ₱112.00 is collected on delivery or at the postal counter for every item with a CN 22 or CN 23 customs form, regardless of its value or country of origin (letter-post page, dated January 2026).
  • Prohibited in parcels: liquids or easily liquefiable items, and glass or fragile articles. The letter-post list adds coffee and coffee products, fresh fruit and intoxicating liquors, among others.
  • Gift parcels are subject to customs duties, taxes and other charges under Philippine customs law and Central Bank rules.

Has any Hong Kong courier posted a Christmas 2026 box cut-off?

Not as of October 19, 2026. A box cut-off is each courier’s own operating date, set per destination zone, and on 2026-10-19 none of the four Hong Kong couriers with websites of their own had posted one for 2026.

“Yes, we have a cut-off date during Christmas season; it is to be announced one month before.” That line in Gen-Ex Cargo’s FAQ is the only Christmas wording on the four sites, and Gen-Ex’s notice board had no Christmas notice on 2026-10-19; its newest post, dated May 24, 2026, marks Buddha’s Birthday. The FAQ also covers a half-packed box. A temporarily closed box is held for one week, after which Gen-Ex “reserves the right to ship to Manila warehouse”. Pick-ups are booked at least one day ahead. Christmas Day, New Year and Good Friday are the days the FAQ lists as closed.

Who else is on the Philippine government’s list

The Department of Trade and Industry publishes a monthly list of accredited sea freight forwarders and the foreign agents that send boxes through them. The newest on 2026-10-18 is dated 31 August 2026. It has 55 Hong Kong rows, 45 filed under Hong Kong, 9 under Kowloon and 1 under Kwai Chung, each pairing a Hong Kong agent with a Philippine forwarder.

AFreight (Asia Pacific) Limited and Usend Hong Kong Ltd. are on it by name. Two other rows pair Hong Kong agents with Philippine partners that share a courier brand: General Cargo Express Ltd. with I-Genex Cargo Forwarder Inc., and Advance Global System Ltd. with LBC Express, Inc. Other names from Hong Kong searches appear as well, among them Alin Cargo Express Co., Ltd., LCSN Express HK Limited, Worldwide Elite Express Co Ltd. and Ex Speed Group Ltd. (H.K.). No Hong Kong website of their own was located for those four, so no date, price or transit is carried for them. The domain alincargo.com belongs to an unrelated Spanish logistics firm.

Counting back from December 24

Of the carriers checked, Hongkong Post is the one with a posted 2026 Christmas date for the Philippines. Adding its posted surface delivery time to November 2 gives a derived arrival window that starts in early December and runs into January. Any route on this page can be counted back from Dec 24 to a chosen Philippine region in the Christmas box cut-off checker.

Which December 2026 days are holidays in Hong Kong?

GovHK publishes the general holidays. The Labour Department publishes the statutory holidays that the Employment Ordinance gives every employee. Around Christmas 2026 the two lists differ on December 22, 25 and 27.

General holidays: GovHK, 'General holidays for 2026' and 'General holidays for 2027'. Statutory holidays: Labour Department, 'Statutory Holidays for 2026' (15 holidays; the 14th is 'Chinese Winter Solstice Festival or Christmas Day (at the option of the employer)'). Per the Labour Department, a statutory holiday falling on a rest day moves to the next day that is not a statutory, alternative or substituted holiday or a rest day. Bank opening on non-holiday days such as Dec 24 and 31 is set by each bank.

December 26 is a statutory holiday either way. December 25 is one only if the employer picks it over December 22. In that case a worker whose weekly rest day is Sunday has December 25, 26 and 27 in a row (derived from the two lists).

The rest day itself comes from the Labour Department’s guide for employing foreign domestic helpers: “not less than one rest day in every period of seven days”, at least 24 hours long. Holiday pay applies after three months on a continuous contract.

Is there a World Bank figure for sending HKD to the Philippines?

No. Hong Kong is not among the 49 sending countries in the World Bank’s Remittance Prices Worldwide corridor search (read via the Internet Archive capture of 2026-08-09). Singapore and Japan are. A search on 2026-10-18 also found no Hong Kong government body that publishes a Hong Kong to Philippines remittance price. Prices are each provider’s own quote for the HKD amount on the day.

Hongkong Post stopped offering the Western Union® Electronic Remittance Service at its 47 designated post offices from 1 December 2025 (notice of 24 November 2025). December bank closures on the Philippine side are in December remittance timing and Philippine holidays, and pickup, bank and e-wallet routes are compared in cash pickup vs bank vs e-wallet.

What changes once the box lands?

Where the box comes from does not change the customs privilege. CAO 01-2018 §4.2 caps the combined FCA value of all balikbayan boxes one sender ships in a calendar year at ₱150,000. Section 4.1 allows the exemption up to three times a year.

Section 4.4 covers boxes that arrive some other way. Balikbayan boxes brought in by means other than consolidated shipment fall under other orders, which it names as CAO 01-2017 on traveller baggage, CAO 03-2017 on postal items and the CAO on express shipments, but they are still counted toward the three-times-a-year availment (Bureau of Customs master copy, read 2026-10-18). For posted items with a CN 22 or CN 23 form, Hongkong Post’s guide adds the ₱112.00 handling fee listed above. The rest of the rule is in the balikbayan box tax-free limit.

What is still posted after the box sailings close?

December 4 is the last posted Christmas date from Hong Kong, for air letters and packets. AFreight’s Metro Manila count-back lands later, on December 10, but AFreight has not published it as a date. Speedpost and e-Express+ remain, with their posted times in the bars above.

Gifts bought and delivered inside the Philippines, and what still arrives once the box windows have closed, are covered in what still arrives after the Christmas box cut-off and Christmas gifts delivered inside the Philippines, ordered from abroad.

Questions, answered

What is the Hongkong Post Christmas 2026 deadline for mail to the Philippines?
Hongkong Post's 2026 Christmas lists give The Philippines three dates: air parcels by Thursday, December 3 and air letters and packets by Friday, December 4 (release of 13 October 2026), and surface mail by Monday, November 2 (release of 10 September 2026). Hongkong Post calls the dates provisional and for reference only. Speedpost and e-Express+ have no Christmas date in either list; the Hongkong Post postage calculator gives Speedpost to the Philippines a delivery standard of 1 to 9 working days. Both lists were re-read on 2026-10-19 and the calculator on 2026-10-18.
What is the Christmas 2026 cut-off for a balikbayan box from Hong Kong?
As of 2026-10-19, none of the four Hong Kong balikbayan couriers with their own websites (AFreight, Gen-Ex Cargo, LBC Express Hong Kong and Usend) had posted a 2026 Christmas cut-off there. Gen-Ex Cargo's FAQ says its Christmas cut-off 'is to be announced one month before'. AFreight (Asia Pacific) Limited and Usend Hong Kong Ltd. appear by name among the Hong Kong agents on the Department of Trade and Industry's accredited-forwarder list dated 31 August 2026. A box cut-off is set by each courier and is not a customs rule.
How long does a balikbayan box take from Hong Kong to the Philippines?
AFreight is the one Hong Kong courier checked that posts transit by zone, counted from the day the vessel leaves the Hong Kong port: Metro Manila 14 days, Luzon A 18, Luzon B and C 21, Luzon D 28, Visayas 28 and Mindanao 30 days (AFreight FAQ, checked 2026-10-18). AFreight adds that the commitment may change without prior notice. Counted back from December 24, 2026, those figures give a latest sailing between November 24 for Mindanao and December 10 for Metro Manila. That is arithmetic on the posted figures, and the wait between pick-up and sailing is extra.
How much does it cost to post a 5 kg parcel from Hong Kong to the Philippines?
Under the Hongkong Post rate tables in force from 30 October 2026, a 5 kg item to the Philippines costs HK$412 by Speedpost. By air parcel, whose Philippines rate is unchanged on that date, it works out at HK$440 (HK$256 for the first kilogram, then HK$23 per extra 500 g). By surface parcel it is HK$348 (HK$248, then HK$25 per extra kilogram). The air and surface totals are added up from the posted steps. Hongkong Post notice of 15 October 2026 and postage calculator, both read 2026-10-18.
Is Christmas Day a holiday for domestic workers in Hong Kong in 2026?
It depends on the employer's choice. The Labour Department's 2026 list of 15 statutory holidays includes 'Chinese Winter Solstice Festival or Christmas Day (at the option of the employer)', which is Tuesday, December 22 or Friday, December 25, plus 'the first weekday after Christmas Day', Saturday, December 26. A foreign domestic helper is also entitled to at least one rest day of 24 hours in every seven days. December 24 and December 31 are on neither the statutory nor the GovHK general-holiday list. All pages were checked on 2026-10-18.
