Japan Post Christmas 2026 deadline to the Philippines: EMS, airmail, parcel and box dates

Checked Seasonal — refreshed yearly

Japan Post had posted no 2026 Christmas date for the Philippines as of October 19, 2026. Its standing guidance, written for every destination, puts the Christmas posting deadline at approximately early December for airmail and approximately late October for surface mail (Japan Post FAQ). Taken from December 24, Japan Post’s standard days to the Philippines give December 9–12, 2026 for EMS (12–15 days) and December 4–5 for letter-post airmail (19–20 days). A sea box with TRANSTECH counts back to a hand-over between Thursday, November 5 (Mindanao) and Thursday, November 26 (Metro Manila). Each of these dates is derived, not a posted date. The surface-parcel count-back falls between September 22 and October 22, and SAL to the Philippines is suspended.

None of the four Japan-based box couriers checked shows a Christmas 2026 cut-off on its website.

  • Japan Post — 2026 Christmas notice: not posted as of 2026-10-19; confirm with Japan Post
  • Japan Post — SAL: acceptance of SAL items to the Philippines fully suspended (conditions page, checked 2026-10-18)
  • Subarashi Cargo — sea: posts 2–3 to 5–7 weeks by region as 'Estimated delivery upon shipment date given'; no 2026 cut-off; confirm with Subarashi
  • LBC Japan — sea/air: no transit and no 2026 Christmas cut-off on its own page or in LBC's cut-off lookup (2026-10-19); confirm with LBC Japan
  • DHL, FedEx, UPS (Japan) — express: no 2026 Philippines date; UPS Japan lists only its December 31 closure (2026-10-19); confirm with each carrier
Every dated marker is December 24 minus a posted figure. That is arithmetic: no carrier has announced these dates. Japan Post's standard days exclude the posting day and carry no guarantee, and its parcel figures run from the exchange-office counter, so 2 days of domestic transport (the upper end of its 1–2) are subtracted for air and surface parcels alike. TRANSTECH counts its weeks from when it takes the box. No prior-year date is shown as current.

Japan Post’s 2026 Christmas deadline for the Philippines

The only Christmas line Japan Post publishes covers the whole world. Its English FAQ, checked 2026-10-18, reads: “The deadline for sending Christmas mail overseas to be delivered by Christmas is approximately early December for airmail and approximately late October for surface mail.” It adds that delays may come from “increased volume and strained transport capacity during the year-end peak season,” even where no delay has been announced.

Each autumn that wording comes back as a short notice, 海外あてクリスマスメールはお早めにお出しください (please post Christmas mail overseas early). In the notices feed it is dated October 14 in 2020, October 11 in 2021, October 14 in 2022, October 23 in 2023, October 28 in 2024 and October 14 in 2025. No 2026 notice had appeared by October 19, when the newest item was an October 16 notice about UGX, Japan Post’s courier service for businesses.

Since 2020 those notices have carried no country table. In 2019 there was one, published on November 15 with a Philippines row that still listed SAL, and that page and its 2018 predecessor still load on Japan Post’s English site. Their Philippine dates belong to those years and to a service list Japan Post no longer offers.

EMS, airmail and parcels: what still goes to the Philippines

For every service, the Philippines sits in Japan Post’s zone 2, which covers Asia outside China, Korea and Taiwan. The zone 2 price tables apply.

The posting day is not counted ('2' means delivery the day after next). Parcel days run from the exchange-office counter named, and the count-back subtracts 2 domestic days. The right-hand column is arithmetic.

Japan Post splits Japan into 13 origin regions, and five of them get the shorter EMS and airmail figure, one day quicker than the rest: Tokyo; Kanto (Ibaraki, Tochigi, Saitama, Gunma, Chiba); Minami-Kanto (Kanagawa, Yamanashi); Tokai (Shizuoka, Aichi, Gifu, Mie); and Kinki (Osaka, Kyoto, Hyogo, Nara, Shiga, Wakayama). An EMS posted in Nagoya or Kobe for a Quezon City address has 12 standard days. From Fukuoka, Sendai or Naha it has 13.

EMS is delivered to the door only in the Philippine postcodes Japan Post lists, which take in the Metro Manila cities from Kalookan and Valenzuela to Muntinlupa and Las Piñas. The list also reaches into Cavite (Bacoor, Imus, Kawit, Noveleta, Rosario, Dasmariñas, Cavite City) and Laguna (Biñan, Santa Rosa). Anywhere else, the recipient collects the item at the counter of the post office serving the address, and Japan Post’s table puts that two standard days later (derived from the 12 and 14). Philippine EMS delivery runs Monday to Friday, with none on weekends or holidays. Busuanga and Linapacan in Palawan, and Looc and Tiik in Occidental Mindoro, take no EMS at all.

Parcels never reach the door. Japan Post’s Philippines conditions mark air and surface parcels alike as handed over at the counter only, and the Philippine post holds them for 30 days. So a 20 kg parcel to Cebu ends with a trip to the post office, whatever it cost to send. The International Air Packet runs the other way: Japan Post’s service page says it goes into the recipient’s mailbox, except for items assessed for tax.

Each of these needs a customs form in English or French. A parcel carries one CN23; an EMS item with goods inside carries two copies of the CN22 or CN23 and one invoice. Japan Post’s FAQ says items containing goods go through its International Mail My Page service, and the Philippines page lists customs electronic data as required. Insurance is limited too. For surface parcels Japan Post lists a ceiling of SDR 138, or JPY 27,550, and small packets cannot be registered at all.

Weekends, holidays, extra aviation-security checks and flight delays all add days on top of a standard figure, by Japan Post’s own account. Surface is looser again. Because a ship may not sail soon after posting, Japan Post gives the 2-to-3-month figure a range of about one month, and it calls surface mail non-priority.

Japan Post price for one 20 kg item to the Philippines, by service (zone 2, checked 2026-10-18) Posted terms — see sources

JPY per item, 20 kg (the Philippine weight limit for EMS and parcels)

Japan Post EMS price table (zone 2, 'up to 20 kg') and international parcel price table (zone 2, air and surface, 'up to 20.0 kg'), checked 2026-10-18. At lighter weights EMS is JPY 3,150 for 1 kg, JPY 8,150 for 5 kg and JPY 13,350 for 10 kg. Insurance and pickup are separate.

At 20 kg, EMS costs JPY 3,550 more than an air parcel. For that it reaches the door in the listed Manila-area postcodes. It also lands three or four standard days ahead of a parcel to the same address, before the parcel’s domestic transport is counted (derived from the two tables). Surface costs a little over half the air parcel price. Its count-back, though, lands between September 22 and October 22.

The International Air Packet replaced International ePacket Light on June 1, 2026, when Japan Post renamed the service and opened it to every country not under an acceptance stop. It takes up to 2 kg, with tracking, under a label printed from My Page. Japan Post publishes no separate standard-days table for it; as an airmail small packet it sits under the letter-post airmail figures above.

LBC Japan and TRANSTECH list the same Asakusabashi address and phone number; LBC Japan's contact email is on the e-transtech.com domain, and TRANSTECH gives the LBC Hotline as its Manila contact. Japan-based forwarders that post only on social media are not carried.

On the Japanese version of its page, TRANSTECH traces the route. The box goes from the sender’s home to a warehouse in Yokohama, is checked, is declared to Yokohama Customs, and travels by container ship to the Port of Manila, where it clears Philippine import customs before delivery. Its delivery times are counted お荷物をお預かりしてから, from the moment the company takes the box. A notice dated January 16, 2018 puts about two weeks between hand-over and sailing, for export declaration, inspection and permission. Those two weeks sit inside the 4 to 7 weeks (derived from the two statements).

If a box reaches the Philippines unpaid, TRANSTECH charges storage of JPY 1,000 a month, and after three months without payment it treats the box as abandoned and disposes of it. Its insurance is USD 1,000 for a Super Value box and USD 500 for a Premium box.

TRANSTECH Japanese service page and Subarashi Cargo rates page, checked 2026-10-18. TRANSTECH adds that export or import declarations, bad weather and natural disasters can delay ships and delivery. Subarashi labels its figures 'Estimated delivery upon shipment date given' and does not define the shipment date; its Manila basic-rate row carries no time.

Counted back from December 24, TRANSTECH’s upper figures give the latest hand-over dates shown in the calendar above, from November 5 for Mindanao to November 26 for Metro Manila. Subarashi’s figures get no count-back. They run from a “shipment date given”, and its page does not tie that date to pickup. For the generic stage-by-stage runway, see how long a balikbayan box takes, the Christmas shipping timeline and why a box is slower in the ber-months.

Article 5 of the Order fixes December 31 to January 3 as bank holidays every year. This time the run starts on a Thursday and ends on a Sunday. Bank business days therefore stop after Wednesday, December 30 and resume on Monday, January 4, 2027. The Order covers bank holidays only; it says nothing about apps or round-the-clock transfer services.

For anyone with an errand at the Philippine Embassy in Tokyo, its 2026 schedule (posted December 1, 2025) closes the embassy to the public on December 8, 24, 25, 30 and 31, and on November 2, 3 and 30. Philippine banks and payout channels keep their own December closures, listed on December remittance timing and Philippine holidays.

What changes once it lands

Philippine customs handles a courier’s box and a postal parcel under different orders. A box that travels in a courier’s container is a consolidated shipment under CAO 01-2018. Its §4.2 keeps the contents to personal and household effects, and it adds up the FCA value of all of one sender’s boxes across the calendar year against a single ₱150,000 ceiling (CAO master copy, checked 2026-10-18).

Through Japan Post, a box arrives as a postal item. Under CAO 01-2018 §4.4, a balikbayan box that comes outside a consolidated shipment falls under a different order (for post, CAO No. 03-2017 on postal items) and still counts toward the three-times-a-year privilege. Separately, CMTA §423 puts the general de minimis at ₱10,000 in FOB or FCA value, at or below which no duties and taxes are collected (RA 10863, checked 2026-10-18). The Bureau of Customs decides which rule fits a given parcel. The privilege itself is set out on the balikbayan box tax-free limit.

How to read this

Every Philippine date here is arithmetic on a posted figure, built the same way for each channel: December 24 minus the carrier’s own time, with Japan Post’s parcel days moved back by two more days for domestic transport. A Japan Post notice with a Philippines row would replace those count-backs. So would a dated cut-off on any courier’s own site. The same arithmetic, route by route and region by region, sits in the Christmas box cut-off checker.

Questions, answered

What is the Japan Post Christmas 2026 deadline for the Philippines?
As of 2026-10-19, Japan Post has posted no 2026 Christmas notice and no Philippines-specific date. Its standing FAQ puts the deadline for Christmas mail to arrive by Christmas at approximately early December for airmail and approximately late October for surface mail, for all destinations. The yearly notice repeating that line appeared between October 11 and October 28 in 2020–2025, with no country table since 2019. Counted back from December 24, Japan Post's EMS standard days to the Philippines give December 9 to 12, 2026, a derived count-back that Japan Post has not posted.
How many days does EMS take from Japan to the Philippines?
Japan Post's EMS standard-days tables, checked 2026-10-18, list 12 days to Manila and the other listed delivery areas from Tokyo, Kanto, Minami-Kanto, Tokai and Kinki, and 13 days from Japan's other eight origin regions. To the rest of the Philippines the figures are 14 and 15 days. The posting day is not counted, weekends, holidays and extra aviation-security checks add days, and Japan Post gives no guarantee on standard days. EMS to the Philippines starts at JPY 1,900 for up to 500 g.
Is SAL from Japan to the Philippines still available in 2026?
No. Japan Post's conditions page for the Philippines, checked 2026-10-18, states that acceptance of SAL items is currently fully suspended, and its acceptance table as of 2026-10-15 marks SAL letters and SAL parcels to the Philippines as cannot be sent. Airmail, surface mail and EMS are marked as accepted. The SAL column still appears in Japan Post's parcel standard-days tables, but the service cannot be used for a Philippine address while the suspension stands. Items containing goods also need customs electronic data.
Does Japan Post EMS deliver to the door in the Philippines?
Only in listed areas. Japan Post's Philippines conditions, checked 2026-10-18, name the places where EMS goes to the address, by postcode: the Metro Manila cities, including Manila, Quezon City, Makati, Pasig and Taguig, plus Bacoor, Imus, Kawit, Noveleta, Rosario, Dasmariñas and Cavite City in Cavite and Biñan and Santa Rosa in Laguna. EMS to other addresses is handed over at the counter of the post office that serves the address, and taxed items may be handed over at a customs counter. EMS is not accepted for Busuanga and Linapacan in Palawan or Looc and Tiik in Occidental Mindoro.
When are Japanese banks closed over New Year 2026–2027?
Japan's Banking Act Enforcement Order, Article 5, sets bank holidays as national holidays, December 31 to January 3, and Saturdays, with Sundays added by Banking Act Article 15(1) (e-Gov, checked 2026-10-18). For this year-end that gives a closure from Thursday, December 31, 2026 to Sunday, January 3, 2027, with Wednesday, December 30 the last bank business day and Monday, January 4, 2027 the first (derived from the Order and the calendar). December 25 is not a holiday in Japan.
