How to check a UK balikbayan box courier: Companies House, the DTI list and posted terms

Checked

A UK balikbayan box courier can be checked against three public records: its Companies House entry, the DTI Fair Trade Enforcement Bureau’s United Kingdom file of accredited forwarders (newest file dated 31 August 2026), and its own posted liability cap and claim window. On 19 October 2026, the company number Balikbayan Box UK prints on its homepage matched an active Companies House entry, five of the six couriers below had a row in the DTI file under their own name, five posted a liability cap in their terms and three posted a claim window.

Together they show who the company is, who receives the box in the Philippines, and what the courier has put in writing about a loss.

Five checks against public records and written terms (sources dated 2026-10-19) Objective public checks — see sources
  1. 1

1 · The company on the UK register

HowCompanies House search, free, by name or company number. Worked example: Balikbayan Box UK Ltd prints company number 11848186 on its homepage; the register shows it Active, incorporated 26 February 2019, registered office in Burton-on-Trent.

Status Active, a company number, an incorporation date and a registered office that match what the courier prints.

Status Dissolved, no entry under any name the courier uses, or a registered office that matches nothing on its paperwork.

  2. 2

2 · Registered name and number on the website and receipt

HowUK trading-disclosure rules (SI 2015/17, regs 24 and 25) require a company's registered name on its websites and receipts, and its registered number and registered office on its websites, letters and order forms.

The registered name, number and office appear on the site or the collection paperwork and match the register.

Only a brand name, a mobile number and a social-media page, with no registered name anywhere.

  3. 3

3 · The Philippine partner on the DTI-FTEB UK file

HowDTI-FTEB United Kingdom file, as of 31 August 2026 (12 rows), also inside the Bureau of Customs mirror of the master list.

A row naming the UK courier, its Philippine forwarder and an expiry date still in the future.

No row under any name the courier uses, or an expiry date already passed.

  4. 4

4 · Liability cap and claim window in writing

HowThe courier's terms and conditions or FAQ page. Caps on this page are quoted in each courier's own currency and wording.

A stated cap per box and a stated period for a written claim.

No liability figure and no claim period anywhere in the published terms.

  5. 5

5 · The deconsolidator in Bureau of Customs notices

HowBureau of Customs media releases name forwarders charged or revoked over abandoned boxes, with dates.

The Philippine forwarder on the DTI row does not appear in a BOC charge or revocation notice.

The forwarder appears in a BOC notice of revoked registration or abandoned shipments.

Register and DTI facts only. A pass on all five is not a guarantee of delivery and this page does not endorse or warn against any named courier.

The six UK couriers against the records

The six UK couriers below each publish their own box website. Each is set against the same four records, in alphabetical order.

Companies House records, the DTI-FTEB UK file and each courier's own terms or FAQ, all read 2026-10-19. Only Balikbayan Box UK's register entry is shown, because its homepage prints the company number. The pages cited for the other five are terms or FAQ pages; registered details can appear on other pages or on collection paperwork. Full GBP box prices are on the UK price guide.

Caps are not like for like. Balikbayan Box UK caps total loss and Forex Cargo UK caps loss or damage, both by box size, and both pay the actual loss if lower. Pooten’s figures cover loss through force majeure and include the shipping charge. LT Express and Highlight Express print a dollar sign without saying which dollar. LBC Express UK computes its automatic cover on the front of each packing list, and where the declared value is higher its terms state the shipper may need to pay additional liability of 2% of the declared value.

Claim windows differ in their start date as well as their length. Balikbayan Box UK allows 14 days from acceptance or delivery, Highlight Express 30 days from “the date of acceptance”, and Forex Cargo UK 30 days from delivery to destination, with no claim entertained until transport charges are paid.

What a Companies House record shows

A company page on the register gives the registered name, number and office, the status (Active or Dissolved), the incorporation date, and the dates accounts and the confirmation statement were last filed and are next due. A register page also lists any previous names, with the dates each was used.

Searching “balikbayan box uk” on 19 October 2026 returned active companies alongside ones dissolved in 2014, 2018 and on 6 October 2026, so a familiar-sounding name on its own says little until the number is matched.

Trading names on a van or a Facebook page can differ from the registered name. SI 2015/17 requires the registered name on the company’s website and on its receipts and other demands for payment (regulation 24), and the registered number and registered office on its website, letters and order forms (regulation 25).

How to read the DTI-FTEB United Kingdom file

The DTI’s Fair Trade Enforcement Bureau accredits the Philippine sea-freight forwarders that receive balikbayan boxes, and lists each one’s foreign agents by country. Its file store holds a monthly folder for each of January to August 2026. The newest UK file is dated 31 August 2026, and no September or October 2026 UK file was posted as of 19 October 2026. The Bureau of Customs points senders the same way: the first tip in its balikbayan box FAQ is to check the list of foreign freight forwarders and their DTI-accredited Philippine counterparts.

Each of the 12 UK rows gives the UK agent’s town, the agent’s name, the Philippine forwarder, its address and contact person, and an expiry date. Expiries run from 22 September 2026 to 2 August 2031, so the earliest has already passed on the newest file. Names are printed the way the forwarder filed them: “Lt Express Limited”, “Pooten Forwarding Int’l. Ltd”, “Forex Cargo Uk Co. Ltd”. Forex Cargo UK has two rows, one per Philippine partner.

Older still is the Bureau of Customs page of accredited forwarders for consolidated balikbayan shipments. Its port lists are scans attached to district memos from August 2022; the Manila International Container Port memo of 12 August 2022 carries data as of 30 June 2022. That memo gives the reason the lists were compiled: “the increasing number of incidents whereby consolidated shipments of Balikbayan Boxes are being left abandoned at the Ports as a consequence of the unscrupulous business practice of some cargo forwarders.”

Who handles a UK sea box, and which record covers each hand (CAO 01-2018, checked 2026-10-19)
  1. Sender

Signs the Information Sheet: contents, total value, number of boxes, availments (CAO §5.1.2)

  2. UK courier (consolidator)

  3. Sea leg

10 days before arrival, Europe sailings (§5.2.3(c))

  4. Philippine deconsolidator

  5. Customs and delivery

If unclaimed, BOC notice to consignees

15 days from receipt of notice (§4.10)

Section numbers from the CAO 01-2018 master copy on customs.gov.ph. Transit times by courier are on the UK price guide.

Registration with the Bureau of Customs under CAO 01-2018 §5.2.1 is held by the Philippine deconsolidator, and under §4.10 the deconsolidator answers for the Bureau’s charges when a shipment is impliedly abandoned.

When a Philippine forwarder leaves boxes at port

CAO 01-2018 §4.10 sets out what follows an abandonment. The Bureau identifies the consignees and sends each a Notice to File Entry or Claim, with 15 days from receipt to respond. Storage, arrastre, demurrage, stripping and stuffing charges on an abandoned container fall on the deconsolidator, which “shall be obliged to answer” for them. The May 2026 complaints also allege the forwarder failed “to truthfully disclose its foreign consolidators”. Each row of the DTI file pairs a foreign agent with its Philippine forwarder.

What UK consumer law says about a service

Chapter 4 of Part 1 of the Consumer Rights Act 2015 covers contracts in which a trader supplies a service to a consumer. Section 49 reads: “Every contract to supply a service is to be treated as including a term that the trader must perform the service with reasonable care and skill.” Section 57(1) makes a term not binding on the consumer to the extent it would exclude that liability, and section 57(3) does the same for a term that would prevent the consumer, in an appropriate case, from recovering the price paid.

How a particular courier’s cap sits against those sections is a legal question this page does not assess.

Signals in the record

Facts that show up in the public record

  • Companies House shows the company as Dissolved, or no company under any name the courier prints.
  • The website and receipt carry no registered name, number or office (SI 2015/17, regs 24 and 25).
  • An agent missing from the newest DTI-FTEB UK file under every name it trades as, or an expiry date that has passed.
  • No liability figure and no claim period in the published terms.
  • The Philippine partner appears in a Bureau of Customs charge or revocation notice.

Where reviews fit

Reviews on Trustpilot, Google or in Facebook groups are senders’ own accounts of their boxes, kept by the review sites and groups themselves. None of the records above includes them.

Posted GBP prices and transit times for the same couriers are on the UK balikbayan box price guide, and their 2026 Christmas dates on the UK Christmas shipping cut-off page. What a cap means once a box is lost is covered in is your balikbayan box really insured. The Information Sheet and the rest of a first shipment are in the first-box step-by-step, and currencies, checks, money orders and traveller’s checks are on the Bureau of Customs not-allowed list in what you can and can’t pack.

Questions, answered

How can a UK balikbayan box courier be checked before booking?
Three public records cover most of it. Companies House shows whether the company is registered and active, when it was incorporated and its registered office. The DTI Fair Trade Enforcement Bureau's United Kingdom file, as of 31 August 2026, pairs each accredited UK agent with its Philippine forwarder and an expiry date. The courier's own terms give its liability cap and claim window. On 19 October 2026, five of six UK couriers checked had a row in the DTI file under their own name, and Highlight Express had none under its own name.
Which UK balikbayan box couriers are on the DTI-FTEB accredited list?
The DTI-FTEB United Kingdom file dated 31 August 2026 has 12 rows. Among them: Balikbayan Box UK Ltd with 12:24 Cargo Express Corporation (expiry 2 August 2031); Forex Cargo UK with Oceanlight Cargo Forwarding (28 June 2031) and U MAC Forwarders Express (28 January 2030); LBC Express Ltd with LBC Express, Inc. (13 April 2031); Lt Express Limited with Ex Speed Cargo Delivery Philippines (23 September 2030); and Pooten Forwarding with Odani Logistic Corporation (28 September 2030). No September or October 2026 file was posted as of 19 October 2026.
What compensation do UK balikbayan box couriers post for a lost box?
Posted caps differ in amount and currency (courier terms read 19 October 2026). Balikbayan Box UK limits total loss to £30 to £125 by box size, or the actual loss if lower. Forex Cargo UK posts USD 50 to USD 200 by size. Pooten posts £100 to £175 for loss due to force majeure, including the shipping charge. LT Express posts $150 per box and Highlight Express $250 per package, neither naming the dollar. LBC Express UK computes its cover on the packing list and posts no figure.
How long is the claim window for a lost or damaged balikbayan box sent from the UK?
Three UK couriers post one in their terms (read 19 October 2026). Balikbayan Box UK asks for a written claim within 14 days of acceptance or delivery. Highlight Express states 30 days from the date of acceptance. Forex Cargo UK states 30 days from delivery to destination, and no claim is entertained until transport charges are paid. LBC Express UK, LT Express and Pooten Forwarding post no claim period in the terms or FAQ pages read that day.
What happens to balikbayan boxes when a Philippine forwarder abandons them?
Under CAO 01-2018 §4.10, the Bureau of Customs sends consignees a Notice to File Entry or Claim, with 15 days from receipt to respond, and the deconsolidator answers for storage, arrastre and demurrage charges. On May 29, 2026 the Bureau filed criminal complaints against Makati Express Cargo, Inc. over 117 forty-foot containers holding about 36,826 boxes left at Manila, Cebu and Davao in 2024 to 2025. Its registration was revoked on 22 January 2026.
