Balikbayan box courier rates compared: UAE → Philippines
Palawan Cargo LLC posts AED 185 for a Medium sea box (46×46×71) from the UAE to Metro Manila (palawancargollc.ae/pricing, checked 2026-10-19). The same box to Mindanao and the inter-island areas is AED 235; no effective date is posted. A UAE box price moves with the emirate the box leaves from, the Philippine region it goes to and the box tier, so two AED quotes for one carton can differ. The table below splits a UAE quote into its separate lines; the customs ceiling over every box comes after it.
| Cost line | What the quote lists | Posted example or note |
|---|---|---|
| Box size tier | AED price for the exact box by its dimensions | Palawan Cargo LLC: one AED price per tier, with a posted maximum weight (Medium 55–65 kg); LBC Express UAE: computed by weight and destination |
| Origin coverage | Pickup or drop-off, and any surcharge for Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah or the Northern Emirates | Door-to-door pricing differs by emirate |
| Destination region | Metro Manila, provincial or island delivery | Palawan Cargo LLC posts four regional columns for every tier |
| Sea or air | Palawan Cargo LLC: sea priced per box; air priced per kg | Palawan Cargo LLC air: AED 20 per kg to Metro Manila, AED 26 per kg to Visayas and Mindanao |
| Transit time | Door-to-door estimate, in writing | Pinas Express Cargo sea: 60-85 days Manila and Luzon, 70-95 days Visayas and Mindanao; Palawan Cargo LLC air: 5-7 days Metro Manila |
| Insurance / coverage | Whether contents are covered and the declared-value cap | Coverage of cash is a courier policy term. Separately, the Bureau of Customs lists currencies, checks, money orders and traveller's checks as not allowed in a balikbayan box (client.customs.gov.ph FAQ id=40, checked 2026-08-30) |
The duty-free ceiling stays the same whichever UAE courier quotes. It is an annual total per sender, counted across the calendar year, whichever courier carries the boxes and whichever emirate they leave from. Two caps sit over that year, and CAO 01-2018 applies both:
| Rule | Posted term | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Value ceiling | Total FCA value for all balikbayan boxes per sender in any calendar year must not exceed ₱150,000 | CAO 01-2018 §4.2 |
| Times per year | Privilege may be availed up to three (3) times in a calendar year | CAO 01-2018 §4.1 |
| What counts as one availment | Boxes in one consolidated shipment covered by one master bill of lading or master air waybill count as one availment | CAO 01-2018 §4.6 |
| De minimis interaction | A shipment above the ₱10,000 de minimis value is automatically one availment | CAO 01-2018 §4.1 |
| Excess value | Any amount in excess of the allowable non-dutiable and non-taxable value is subject to the applicable duties and taxes | CAO 01-2018 §3.1 |
The ceiling works as a yearly budget per sender. Three boxes from Dubai at ₱60,000 each add up to ₱180,000 of FCA value in one calendar year, over the ₱150,000 ceiling although each box on its own sits well under it. The two caps also run separately: a sender can use up the value before the three availments, or the availments before the value. The exclusions that follow from both are on what you can and can’t pack.
What actually drives the price
A UAE box price is assembled from five lines, and each one moves on its own:
- Box tier. Palawan Cargo LLC sets one AED price per box tier per region, each tier with a posted maximum weight; LBC Express UAE computes its rate by weight and destination (palawancargollc.ae/pricing; lbcexpress.com/ae/sea-freight, both checked 2026-10-19).
- Origin coverage. Pickup from a residence or drop-off at a branch, and any surcharge for the sender’s emirate or area, change the door-to-door AED figure before the box ships.
- Destination region. Metro Manila, a province and an island are three delivery costs and three transit windows for the same box. On Palawan Cargo LLC’s board the Medium box spans AED 185 to AED 235 by region.
- Sea or air. On Palawan Cargo LLC’s board, sea is priced per box and air per kg: AED 20 per kg to Metro Manila, delivered in 5-7 days, with a minimum charge for packages up to 31 kg. Pinas Express Cargo posts sea at 60-85 days to Manila (pinascargo.com/pricing, checked 2026-10-19).
- Insurance and declared value. Coverage and its cap vary by courier, so the declared-value line differs between two quotes for one box. Cash coverage is a courier policy term. Packing cash has a published answer: the Bureau of Customs lists currencies, checks, money orders and traveller’s checks as not allowed in a balikbayan box (client.customs.gov.ph FAQ id=40, checked 2026-08-30). That list is BOC guidance to senders on contents, and it says nothing about courier coverage.
Since the total is the sum of those lines, one courier can quote lower for a Metro Manila drop-off from Dubai and higher for an island delivery from Abu Dhabi. Written AED quotes for one box, taken on the same day, set the lines side by side.
What the UAE couriers post
The UAE corridor is mixed. LBC Express UAE computes its box rate by weight and destination inside a booking flow; its sea-freight page lists box sizes and no AED figure (lbcexpress.com/ae/sea-freight, checked 2026-10-19), so the LBC rate is one to confirm with LBC. Some kabayan forwarders post a full AED sea-box board. Palawan Cargo LLC posts per-tier AED prices broken out by Philippine destination region (palawancargollc.ae/pricing, checked 2026-10-19; the page carries no effective date, so the current figure is one to confirm with the courier):
| Box tier (cm) | Metro Manila | Mainland Luzon | Visayas | Mindanao / inter-island |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Medium (46×46×71) | AED 185 | AED 195 | AED 215 | AED 235 |
| Jumbo (56×56×76) | AED 375 | AED 385 | AED 445 | AED 475 |
| Super Jumbo (56×56×96) | AED 445 | AED 465 | AED 535 | AED 555 |
| Super Mega (49×73×96) | AED 525 | AED 535 | AED 585 | AED 595 |
Other UAE forwarders publish their board only as images (Pinas Express Cargo, pinascargo.com/pricing, checked 2026-10-19) or quote by inquiry. A posted board still differs by emirate of origin and can change without a dated notice.
How to read this
The AED total for one box depends on the emirate of origin, the receiving region at home and the tier, so the page carries one posted board, the cost lines and the customs ceiling. Ordered by total door-to-door cost, same-day written quotes for the same box show where the lines differ. The fixed, sourced figure is the Bureau of Customs annual value ceiling, kept current at least quarterly, and it is the same for a box from the UAE, the US or anywhere else. Only the freight and the currency change.

Questions, answered
- How much is a balikbayan box from Dubai or the UAE to the Philippines?
- Palawan Cargo LLC posts AED 185 for a Medium sea box (46x46x71) to Metro Manila, AED 195 to mainland Luzon, AED 215 to the Visayas and AED 235 to Mindanao and the inter-island areas (palawancargollc.ae/pricing, checked 2026-10-19; no effective date posted). Its Jumbo box runs AED 375 to 475 by region. Other UAE couriers post image boards or quote by inquiry, and a quote also moves with the emirate of pickup and with sea or air. The customs side is fixed: ₱150,000 total FCA value per sender per calendar year (Bureau of Customs, CAO 01-2018 §4.2, checked 2026-08-30).
- How long does a balikbayan box from the UAE take to arrive?
- Pinas Express Cargo posts an estimated sea lead time of 60-85 days to Manila and Luzon and 70-95 days to the Visayas and Mindanao on its sea rate image (pinascargo.com/pricing, checked 2026-10-19). Palawan Cargo LLC posts air delivery at 5-7 days to Metro Manila and 15-25 days to the Visayas, Mindanao and the islands, and its air rate as AED 20 per kg to Metro Manila and mainland Luzon and AED 26 per kg to the Visayas, Mindanao and the islands, with a minimum charge up to 31 kg (palawancargollc.ae/pricing). The step-by-step timing is on the page on how long a balikbayan box takes.
- Is there one fixed price for cargo from Dubai to the Philippines?
- No single figure holds for every sender. The AED price is the sum of the box tier, the emirate of pickup and any area surcharge, the Philippine destination region, and sea or air. On Palawan Cargo LLC's own board the same Medium box costs AED 185 to Metro Manila and AED 235 to Mindanao, a AED 50 gap set only by destination (derived from palawancargollc.ae/pricing, checked 2026-10-19). LBC Express UAE computes its rate by weight and destination in a booking flow. Written quotes for one box taken on one day put those lines side by side.
- Can a balikbayan box be sent from Sharjah or through a kabayan cargo in the UAE?
- Box forwarding from the UAE runs through community cargo operators as well as larger couriers such as LBC Express UAE, and pickup from a residence or drop-off at a branch changes the AED figure before the box ships. The customs terms are identical whichever operator carries it: the duty-free privilege covers personal, non-commercial contents, capped at ₱150,000 total FCA value across one sender's boxes in a calendar year and availed up to three times (Bureau of Customs, CAO 01-2018 §4.1 to §4.2, checked 2026-08-30). BOC's own box list names currencies and checks as not allowed (client.customs.gov.ph FAQ id=40).
- Which UAE couriers post their box prices online?
- As of 2026-10-19, Palawan Cargo LLC posts a full AED sea-box board as text, by box tier and by Philippine region (palawancargollc.ae/pricing). Pinas Express Cargo publishes its sea, air and TV rates as images (pinascargo.com/pricing). LBC Express UAE lists box sizes on its sea-freight page with no AED figure and computes the rate by weight and destination in a booking flow (lbcexpress.com/ae/sea-freight). Other UAE forwarders quote by inquiry. Palawan Cargo LLC's board carries no effective date; Pinas Express Cargo's sea image is headed temporary rates effective April 27, 2026.
