Is there one fixed price for cargo from Canada to the Philippines?

No single CAD figure fits every sender. The total is built from the box tier, the province and city of pickup and any remote-area surcharge, the Philippine destination region, and sea or air. Forex eShip Canada prices separately for Alberta, BC and Ontario, and its Ontario image runs from $95 to NCR to $125 to Mindanao for the same box (forexeship.com/canada, checked 2026-10-19). Same-day written CAD quotes for one box, ordered by total door-to-door cost, show which line moves the figure.

Can a balikbayan box be sent from a smaller Canadian city or through a kabayan cargo?

Box forwarding from Canada runs through community cargo operators and agents as well as larger couriers, and pickup from a remote residence or drop-off in a major centre changes the CAD figure before the box ships. The image names no box size and prints ”$” without “CAD” (forexeship.com/canada). Alberta and BC have their own price images, so one box is priced by the province it is picked up in as well as the Philippine region it is going to. A Toronto sender with three boxes in one calendar year, ₱60,000 of FCA value in each, reaches ₱180,000 and goes past the ₱150,000 ceiling, though each box on its own is far inside it. The three-availment limit is counted apart from the value, so either can be exhausted first. The exclusions that follow from both are on what you can and can’t pack.

What actually drives the price

A Canadian box price is the sum of five lines that move independently:

Box tier. Forex eShip Canada posts one price per Philippine zone on each province image; LBC Express Canada computes its rate in a calculator; Johnny Air Cargo Canada charges air by the pound (forexeship.com/canada; lbcexpress.com/ca/sea-freight; johnnyaircargo.ca, all checked 2026-10-19).
Origin coverage. Pickup from a residence or drop-off, and any surcharge for the province, city or a remote area, change the door-to-door CAD figure before the box ships. Forex eShip Canada keeps separate price images for Alberta, BC and Ontario.
Destination region. On Forex eShip’s Ontario image the same box is $95 to NCR and $125 to Mindanao, as printed. Johnny Air Cargo Canada adds a delivery fee by destination, for example $20.00 for Olongapo (johnnyaircargo.ca/delivery-fees, checked 2026-10-19).
Sea or air. Forex eShip Canada prices the sea box per zone; Johnny Air Cargo Canada prices air per lb, CAD $9.00 to Metro Manila.
Insurance and declared value. Coverage and its cap vary by courier, so the declared-value line differs between two quotes for one box. Cash coverage is a courier policy term. Packing cash has a published answer: the Bureau of Customs lists currencies, checks, money orders and traveller’s checks as not allowed in a balikbayan box (client.customs.gov.ph FAQ id=40, checked 2026-08-30). That list is BOC guidance on contents and is silent on courier coverage.

As the total is those lines added together, one courier can come in lower for a Metro Manila drop-off from Toronto and higher for an island delivery from a smaller city. Written CAD quotes for one box on the same day put the lines next to each other.

Why there is no sea-freight rate board here

A check of the Canada→Philippines balikbayan couriers on 2026-09-06 found that none posts a flat, self-serve CAD sea box rate board as text on its own site. LBC Express Canada gates its rates behind an online calculator and posts box sizes only (lbcexpress.com/ca/sea-freight, checked 2026-10-19). UMAC Toronto quoted by inquiry and Triumph Express handled freight by consultation in that survey (umactoronto.ca; triumph.ca, checked 2026-09-06). Forex eShip Canada publishes prices only as province-specific images, separate Alberta, BC and Ontario tables marked “Effective September 1, 2026”, and routes senders to a named agent by phone (forexeship.com/canada, checked 2026-10-19). The Ontario image reads NCR $95, Luz1 $105, Luz2 $115, Vis $120, Min $125 and “1on1” $140, as printed, with free pick-up posted for the Greater Toronto Area. With prices split by origin province, a single posted figure would describe only one province.

The one courier posting CAD figures as text on its own site is Johnny Air Cargo Canada, and those are air cargo priced per pound: CAD $9.00 per lb to Metro Manila and CAD $10.00 per lb to the provinces for packages (2 lb minimum), with door-to-door delivery fees added by destination (johnnyaircargo.ca/shipping-rates, checked 2026-10-19; the page carries no effective date). That is an air per-pound rate, and it does not compare as one figure with a sea box price. For a standard sea-freight box the CAD price is quoted per route, which is why this page carries the cost lines and the posted images.

How to read this

The CAD total for one box depends on the Canadian province of origin, the region the box is going to and the box tier. So the page sets out Forex eShip’s dated Ontario figures, the cost lines and the customs ceiling. Written CAD quotes for the same box on the same day, ordered by total door-to-door cost, show where two couriers differ. The fixed, sourced figure is the Bureau of Customs annual value ceiling, kept current at least quarterly; it applies the same way to a box from Canada, the US or anywhere else.
